This violin was made by Matteo Mazzotti in 2024 in Piacenza, Italy. Mazzotti learned the craft of violin making while attending the Istituto Liutario ‘A Stradivari’ in Cremona and undertook private lessons with various master luthiers in Italy. In 2000, he received his degree as ‘Maestro Liutaio’ with full marks. After working with Master Massimo Negroni to improve his knowledge of the classic Cremonese style of violin-making, he opened his own workshop in Piacenza. This violin comes with a beautiful certificate of authenticity in the form of a book with high-quality photos, along with a description of the instrument & its parts from the maker.

This violin is labelled 'Matteo Mazzotti / Cremonensis / fece in Piacenza / Anno 2024' and is modelled freely after Antonio Gagliano. The body measures 356mm along the back, 168mm across the upper bouts and 208mm across the lower bouts. The back is made with one piece of maple, highly flamed with a medium curl, and the ribs and scroll have been selected to match. The top is of a moderately grained spruce, and has been finished with an amber varnish and ebony fittings.

This violin has a brilliant and rich tone, which carries across both the high and low registers of the instrument. The sound is vibrant even at the softest dynamic and its quick response makes it feel as though the violin is constantly brimming with energy. It possesses power and projection, yet has the ability to blend easily and would be well-suited to a chamber or orchestral musician.
