The Country Fair is a string orchestra piece written for an intermediate ensemble. The piece is based loosely on the G pentatonic scale with the melody shared around between all the instruments. Make sure the players carefully observe the difference between the staccato and tenuto notes in the opening melody as this will help create the feel of the piece. All parts are in 1st position throughout but there are harmonics and pizzicatos as well as lots of rhythmic variation to keep the players interested and on their toes!
